BIOMATERIALS LIBRARY

The Biomaterials Library is Lithuania's first and only publicly accessible collection dedicated to innovative materials that reflect current trends in design and production. With a strong emphasis on ecological and environmentally friendly biomaterials, the library actively promotes sustainable design concepts through a circular approach to resources and waste management.

Carefully curated biomaterial samples in the library effectively complement theoretical knowledge by allowing users to physically explore each material's aesthetic and functional properties—experiencing their textures, surfaces, and even their scents. This hands-on interaction provides invaluable insights into contemporary biomaterials, supporting the development of sustainable design solutions across various products.

The Biomaterials Library is continuously evolving, offering both physical and virtual exploration opportunities. It serves as an essential resource hub, empowering people from various fields to work, learn, develop, and implement projects. By facilitating comparison and reflection on alternative materials, the library encourages practical, real-world applications of biomaterials.

Acting as a bridge connecting traditional construction methods and advanced, smart, or even living materials, the Biomaterials Library represents a gateway to environmentally conscious design. This innovative space fosters a creative community where science, nature, technology, and creativity seamlessly converge. The collection is particularly valuable for students, designers, and companies seeking inspiration and sustainable alternatives to enhance their production practices.

Curated by Austėja Platūkytė, the project is organized by NGO “Medžiagotyra” and funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
